The GDR NINO is structured around three themes that help to identify the development prospects associated with the project:

Actions to address the scientific challenges and obstacles in these areas are divided into three main areas:
- Elaboration
- Characterisation
- Theory
A dialogue between the axes will enable an integrated approach to synthesis, structural studies and modeling, within each theme.
